4-channel IR-sound installation, 2014
Disaster as an event is ambivalent: It belongs in part to real experience, while at the same time it is used as an image by mass media to achieve other objectives. Mass media thereby undermines its reference to reality.
This work reflects on the five-day war between Russia and Georgia in 2008. State news agencies, voices of the South Ossetian residents suffering from war, chaotic recordings made by Russian soldiers during the battle, radio conversations of the pilots attacking the city of Tskhinvali: These are elements of the 4-channel IR sound installation. Walking through the installation of empty glass vitrines while wearing headphones and catching the signals, one becomes a mediator used for the construction of a non-linear narrative of the events.
